Greenway Development

In 2019 the EastSide Greenways Concept Plan was developed and launched. Engagement was undertaken with a number of key stakeholders to ensure their contribution to and support for the EastSide Greenway concept plan, these include: Belfast City Council, Department for Infrastructure, The Executive Office, The National Lottery Community Fund and Sustrans NI.

The EastSide Greenways Concept Plan includes:

  • Potential greenway routes in addition to the current Comber and Connswater Community Greenways
  • Identification of existing links that could be enhanced
  • Identification of potential new linkages that would enhance accessibility across the network
  • The proximity of the network to existing community facilities and other leisure and tourist destinations
  • The relationship of communities to the network
  • The potential for network ‘hubs’ such as C.S. Lewis Square
  • Integration of the network with other transport infrastructure
  • Linkages with the city centre and Titanic Quarter and other key destinations
  • Integration of the network with wider city and regional cycle and pedestrian networks

In 2022 the first EastSide Greenways Interagency Meeting took place which brought together representatives from; Sustrans, Belfast Harbour, DFI and Belfast City Council. Through this group, we aim to work more collaboratively to support greenway development in east Belfast and beyond.

We want to hear from you about any possible new links to the Connswater Community Greenway that you have identified or other links relating to our ESG Concept Plan above. Get in touch with greenways@eastsidepartnership.com today.
