The Hollow and Dixon Playing Fields

Facilities

There are two car parks located in this section, a small car park on Abetta Parade at the entrance to The Hollow and a larger car park accessed via Grand Parade (opposite the Go Station) offering access to Dixon Playing Fields. 

There are no public toilets located at The Hollow or Dixon Playing Fields.

Play parks and pitches

Dixon Playing Fields are soccer pitches located on the Greenway and can be booked by contacting Belfast City Council following this link

Refreshments

Audacity Coffee can be found on the Beersbridge Road close to the entrance to The Hollow and offers coffee and traybakes.

Getting there

The Hollow can be accessed via

  1. The Connswater Community Greenway off Beersbridge Road or Woodcot Avenue
  2. An car park entrance off Abetta Parade

Dixon Playing Fields can be accessed via the Connswater Community Greenway at Grand Parade or Woodcot Avenue.  There is also access using one of three new bridges  in Dixon Park

  1. Hutchinson Bridge at Woodcot Avenue and coming from The Hollow
  2. Shannon Bridge & Grace Bannister Bridge, both off Dunraven Gardens

If you are travelling by bus from Belfast city centre, take Metro no. 18, 19 or 19A from Belfast city centre and get off at Beersbridge Road.

Things to see and do

The Hollow is a site of particular interest as the point that the Connswater meets the two tributaries, the Knock and Loop Rivers. It is also a site of historical interest with links to Van Morrison and Conn O’Neill.

There are several heritage trails and tours that pass through The Hollow including the Conn O’Neill Bus Tour and the Gaelic Bus Tour of East Belfast, both run by Turas at East Belfast Mission.
